Obituary of Frederick J. Koechlin

Frederick J. Koechlin, 93, of Oceanport passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in New York City, Fred resided in Oceanport for the past 11 years. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret O’Prandy Koechlin. He was a devoted husband and father. He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick G. and Florence C. Owens Koechlin; and a sister, Catherine Clifford. Surviving are his three sons, Frederick and Joanne Koechlin, South Carolina, Robert and Susan Koechlin, Maryland, and Michael and Melinda Koechlin, Massachusetts; two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Walter Anderson and Kathleen and Peter Cusumano, Aberdeen; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He proudly served his country during World War II as a corporal in the U.S. Army and a Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy. After the war he started his career raising chickens in Colts Neck where he was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary’s Church. He later lived in Holmdel and joined the St. Joseph’s Society of St. Leo the Great Church. He finally resided in Oceanport where he was the keynote speaker for the 2011 Veteran’s ceremonies. He was employed at the Hotel New Yorker and Hercules Powder Company, Parlin before his career as a sales manager for Transamerica Trailer Service, Cranford. The viewing will be held at the Higgins memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Leo the Great Church, Lincroft on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.
