James F. Higgins
1921-2010 - Founder
Following his father's death at a young age, James Higgins developed an interest in service to those affected by the death of a loved one. After graduation from Freehold High School, Jim Higgins began his internship with the Memorial Funeral Home in Plainfield. During World War II Jim served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 9th Air Force, 391st Bomb Group in Europe. At the conclusion of World War II Jim returned to Memorial Funeral Home and went on to attend the Cincinnati College of Embalming. He served with William S. Heyer at the Heyer Funeral home in Hightstown before opening the Higgins Memorial Home in 1952. Jim Higgins was an active member of Freehold Borough Board of Education, Freehold Planning Board, and a founding member of the Board of Directors of Hudson Manor.
Our firm was invited into membership in Selected Independent Funeral Homes, (formerly National Selected Morticians) in 1971. We are members of the National Funeral Directors Association, New Jersey State Funeral Director's Association, and the Monmouth-Ocean Funeral Director's Association.
