I will never forget Mr. Barlaam. He was by far the best teacher I ever had. I had him for social studies back in the 70's & I can still remember so much about him & that class. I would see him from time to time later on & he always remembered his students. He was definitely one of a kind. Thank you Mr. Balaam & may you rest on peace knowing all you brought to this world & all the lives you touched.

Simply put, Mr. Barlaam was the best on every level. Just an amazing and caring human being. I am so sorry to his family and loved ones for your loss. He cannot be replaced. But clearly he touched so many people in such positive ways that he lives on in all of us.
He is that teacher from the movies, or probably what every teacher dreams of being when they first start. I have so many fond memories of his class and being in his plays at Barkalow in the early 90's. In one I played a fish. There was one that was a take off of a twilight zone episode called Blessed Are the Meek. I still quote his line that was in every play that no one around me ever understands but brings me such joy "the guys in white coats. Big nets!"
He gave all his students a sense of confidence, and found a way to connect with each of them. His creativity and caring was seen each day. I am so lucky to have known him and had him as a teacher. He will be missed.

Louisa and family I send my heartfelt condolences. Rich made me feel so welcome the first time I met him all those years ago at The Learning Center. And he always had such a wonderful smile on his face. And when we moved to the township and Jimmy had him as a teacher made him feel comfortable in his new school. He was and always will be a wonderful man

So many great memories of my time with Richie in the late 70's and early 80's. Many of those involved strumming our guitars together, singing our hearts out (Me and Julio Down By The Schoolyard) and enjoying a beverage or two. Times shared at the Special Olympics and events with the Association for Children with Learning Disabilities. Exploring various levels of dehydration on weekend "Comfortable Rock" backpacking adventures that also took us to cliffs overlooking beautiful mountain ranges. Grateful Dead concerts with our buddy Christine and our mutual friend Mary Jane. Watching the first Star Wars in the theater with Mary again. Seeing Peter, Paul and Mary together. Standing under a tree with Richie Havens at the Clearwater festival on the Hudson. And mostly enjoying the warm, joyful company of Richie and Louisa. I will cherish these memories and the friendship that we shared always. Rest well Richie.

I was lucky to have Mr Barlaam as a teacher and he made it fun being in his class. For anybody who has ever seen a movie called Mr Holland's Opus, Mr Barlaam actually made a second version of that same movie because he touched so many lives throughout his career and even through the town of freehold.

A bright light in my early formative years, I always looked forward to Mr. Barlaam’s class and it was probably one of my favorite classes to ever be in. He made learning fun and it’s no surprise considering the literal bundle of joy that he was.
He was hilarious and he was kind. Understanding and fair. You let me be in the school play when I probably shouldn’t have and I’ll always appreciate that.
Your legacy lives on in all the young minds and lives you’ve inspired. The world is a better place because you were in it.
May you rest in peace, in laughter, and in eternity Mr. B.
(Wyoming will never be a state to me)
Forever your student,
Paul L.

What can I say about this brilliant man with such a big heart? He’s the reason I knew about The Grateful Dead at 14. He helped me fulfill my dream of playing the role of a wicked witch, singing on stage for my first time in a lead role. His total confidence in me was powerful. He made social studies something to look forward to, and his classroom was such a refuge and invitation to be as weird as I wanted to be. I loved his humor and honest truth, even if the school didn’t always appreciate it…
I will never forget the positive impact he has had on my life. He made me feel like I really mattered. And for a kid with low self-esteem, that sure makes a big difference.
Thank you, Mr Barlaam. Bless your way.

Mr Barlaam was one in a million. Wether it was memories of him blasting some Greatful Dead during our social studies classes, or giving me a wet willie every time we performed in the music man, he will be missed. My condolences to his family

Louisa, Geanna, Jacob and family,
My heart hurts with the sadness at Rich's passing. Stephen and I were both so very lucky to have him for 2 years and our homeroom teacher. My memories are deep and long of his teachings, stories, guitar playing, rubber chicken in his closet, the coffee table he and his brother broke and the luck of having him as a neighbor. There are not enough hours or words to give justice to the Immense human he was. He was loved by all who met him and deeply respected.
Love to you all. You are all in my heart and prayers.

Mr. Barlaam was one of the very reasons I became a history teacher. He taught me that learning history was important, but that learning, listening and celebrating one another was even more important. He was an inspiration and role model for every student he stood beside. Sending his family love and thanking god for his presence and positive impact in my life and this world. Mr. Barlaam, Rest In Peace. Michelle L.

I was so grateful to have Mr. B as an incredible 8th grade social studies teacher. He was very patient, understanding, caring and made learning fun. I even had the pleasure of being in a majority of his very comical drama productions. Mr. Barlaam was a close family friend and will forever hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for all you have done for your family, friends and devoted students.
