Obituary of Gregory Maurice Powell

Gregory Maurice Powell passed peacefully into the divine arms of the Savior on Saturday, August 6th 2022. He was born in New York City, NY on March 25th 1974 to Earle and Pauline Powell, then residing in Roselle Park, NJ. Greg attended New Jersey Schools in Plainfield (St. Bernard’s), Westfield (Holy Trinity), Metuchen (St. Joseph’s) and Rutgers University in Piscataway. Always a great scholar-athlete, Greg was lauded by faculty and his peers for his wonderful character, a feeling shared by all who met him. He was known for his willingness to help, never turning anyone down. Those closest to him knew him for his supreme loyalty and gentleness. Greg was a long-term employee of UPS, holding various positions. Greg met and later married Veneida Fitzpatrick of Jackson, NJ in September 1997; they have three children Giovanni, Nia and Zion. Greg prioritized faith and family above all else and lovingly sacrificed for them, as they were his pride and joy. Greg and Veneida raised their family in Brick, NJ. Greg will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, adoring grandfather, wonderful son, cherished grandson, a great and protective brother, caring Godfather and uncle and a loyal friend to many. His bright light will carry on. Greg is survived by his wife Veneida, children Giovanni (Kamille), Nia (Heidy) and Zion, grandchildren Giovanni Jr. and Marcellus, parents Earle and Pauline, grandmother Elsie, mother-in-law Cleo, siblings Renée (Rudolph) and Michael (Janelle), brothers-in-law Needham III, Domenic, and Kevin, and a host of beloved uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, God children, cousins and friends. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday, August 19, 2022 from 9 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.
