Obituary of Herman (Dick/Nupa) Koehler

Herman F. Koehler, 88, of Freehold knows to his many friends as Dick or Nupa, passed away on April 11, 2022. He was born in Peoria, Illinois and had resided in Freehold for 53 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Award. He was a member of the Philip A. Reynolds Detachment, Marine Corps League, Freehold. He was a heavy equipment operator for J.R. Ientile, Inc., Morganville before his retirement. He was an avid auto racing fan and attended races at New Egypt Speedway, Bridgeport Speedway, Grandview Speedway, Bechtelsville, PA, Big Diamond Speedway, Pottsville PA, and Volusia Speedway Park, De Leon Springs, Florida. He was known to be the first patron of the day in all local breakfast establishments. Surviving are his wife of 66 years Carol Miller Koehler; a son, R. Glen Koehler and wife Lori Ritz; two daughters, Kim Koehler Stetka and husband Stephen Keklak, and Leslie Koehler Taylor and husband Robert Taylor; Summer Davis and Jacob Bell, whom they raised; six grandchildren, Aimee Stetka, Justin Stetka, Dylan Koehler, Kaitlynn Koehler, Jessica Driscoll, and Melissa Ritz; two great grandchildren, Mackenna and Talia Stetka; and his best dog ever, Frankie. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Marine Corps League services will be held at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Tunnel to Towers Foundation ( https://t2t.org/) or Wounded Warriors Project (woundedwarriorproject.org) would be appreciated.
