Obituary of Louis Carotenuto, Sr.

Retired Captain Louis Carotenuto, 91, of Freehold Borough, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 25, 2021 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was the son of the late Michael and Anna Carotenuto. He was born in Scafati, Italy on October 25, 1930 and came to America in April 1937. He resided in Freehold. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict on the Battleship USS New Jersey. He attended the College of New Jersey (previously Trenton State University) and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Science. He served the Freehold Borough Police Department for 25 years before his retirement as Captain in 1985. He was the loving husband of the late Lillian Mironchik Carotenuto and is survived by daughters Louise Carotenuto-Kousoulides and son-in-law, Timothy Kousoulides; Mary Carotenuto and Elizabeth Carotenuto; sons Michael Carotenuto and Louis Carotenuto; grandchildren Dominique, Nicholas, Dylan, Christopher; and great grandson, Luca. He is also survived by his siblings Carmela Dunn and Rev. Anthony Carotenuto as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Amanda Carotenuto. He loved spending time with his family and his horses. He could often be found at the Freehold Raceway. A friend to all, he will be greatly missed. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 2-6 PM, with prayers at 5:30 PM, at Higgins Memorial Home on 20 Center St., Freehold. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 10:30 AM at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, 16 McLean St, Freehold.
