Obituary of Martin R. McGowan, Jr.

Martin R. McGowan Jr., 68, of Millstone Township died on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. He had resided in Freehold and Little Silver. He was a graduate of The Lawrenceville School, Williams College, and Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University. Mr. McGowan was admitted to practice in New Jersey in 1979. If you knew Martin, you knew that he had great taste in music, and, some may argue, the worst taste in sports teams (Go Mets!). He was an expert at the NY Times' Sunday crossword puzzles, and was his happiest when playing his guitar. He was predeceased by his parents, Judge M. Raymond McGowan and Ruth Denise McGowan, and two brothers, John Charles McGowan and James Denise McGowan. Martin is survived by his daughter, Sara Leclaire (Christopher Leclaire), grandchildren Margaret Grace and John Christopher, Ballston Lake, NY; and his sister, Mary Patricia Hickey, Clonmel, Ireland. He is further survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Graveside services will be held at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold at a later date. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
