I'm extremely saddened of Jerry's passing. For the last several years I would work with Jerry on the Captains Bridge. I would go in hoping Jerry was assigned with me. Both of us being prior crewmembers gave us some joy talking about our experiences while aboard. I will miss him terribly and think of him often while on the bridge.

To the family of Jerry Gottlieb,
We are saddened by the loss of our dear comrade Jerry. He not only served in World War II and Korea but continued to inspire so many in his later years volunteering his time at the Intrepid Museum.
We the former crew members are grateful to have known him. Jerry was proud to be a former crew member of our ship and always wore clothing displaying that.
May his memory be a blessing. Fair winds and following seas.
We salute you Jerry Gottlieb.

I was very saddened to learn that we lost Jerry. I managed Jerry (as if anyone could manage him!) at the Intrepid Museum these past 5-6 years. Much of my knowledge and love of the ship came from Jerry and his good friend Willy, who we also lost not too long ago. Jerry was extremely proud of his Navy service and loved speaking with our visitors. He was the last of the WWII crewmembers to volunteer on a regular basis.
In addition to his love of service and country, it was Jerry's fighting spirit that made an impression on everyone. Until I met Jerry I thought I was the most stubborn person at the Museum but he set me right! Always willing to tell you exactly what was on his mind, Jerry was a fighter from his youngest years right up until the end and Intrepid won't be the same without him. Fair winds and following seas, Jerry.

Sending peace and love to my Aunt Estelle, cousins Steve and Arthur. Uncle Jerry was one-of-a-kind, funny, generous and tough! I'll miss the way he always called me Honey and how I had to scream into the phone for him to hear me when I called. I hope he finally has the rest and peace he has always deserved. I never knew someone who worked harder than he did to make sure his family had what they needed and he had some to always give away. Love you all, hope to see you very soon.

Proud to have spent the day in June 2015 with Uncle Jerry aboard the Intrepid. He was our dad's baby brother and the last blood relative of his generation in our family. May Uncle Jerry's memory be for a blessing.

I'm sure many people will agree with me when I say Jerry was the toughest man around. The details of his life included challenges to which most people in this day and age would object, reject, and retreat from meeting. He eagerly defended his country..twice!...a feat not often heard of in this day and age. He cared for aging parents, built businesses, and raised a family with stoic strength and integrity. I don't know of any other people, in my personal history or in written history, who have had such success with life. I'll miss his gruff "Hello!", his sweet smile, and his no nonsense way of telling a story or giving his opinion of something...or someone. My life is better for having known him.
