Obituary of Joan Doherty

Joan Doherty died peacefully on April 13, 2018 in Charleston, South Carolina at the age of 74. Born in New York City, she and her husband raised a family in Sayreville, NJ before moving to Mount Pleasant, SC. She was predeceased by her husband of 25 years, Walter Doherty; her brother Victor Satlov and sister-in-law Jill; and sister-in-law Patricia Maas. Surviving are her son Thomas Doherty and wife Tami of Apex, NC; son Matthew Doherty and wife Rebecca of Lawrenceville, NJ; four beautiful grandchildren; sister Janet Kaufman and husband Allen; brother-in-law George Maas; cherished friends Janet and Richie Clark; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Joan had a lifelong love for music and dancing, and upon moving to SC, she especially enjoyed tending to the backyard flowers with her best friend, dance partner, and beloved twin sister Janet. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org). The viewing and service will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday.
