my deepest sympathies go to Leni & all Chris's family and so many friends; it's been a long time since the Hughes family lived in Lock Haven; I haven't been home since I got the news, but I know that many people have very fond memories of Trinity Church in Lock Haven, Chris's scouting days at Camp Kline and elsewhere and so very many other special memories; God bless you all & I'll be in touch; take care

Chris was a name heard very often around Old Tennent Church. Mr. Hughes was keen to notice my head whip around as people would call out to him; he later, jokingly, told me that Chris was a good name to have. I am blessed to have been one of many youth who were shown, by Mr. Hughes' example, what it meant to be a good person, and this will stay with me always. Mrs. Hughes, Phil, Sara, Amy, and Laura: I am very sorry for your loss. You all will be in my prayers. Peace be with you. Regards, Chris Vlahov

Please accept my deepest sympathy on the passing of Chris. My son, Peter and I, first met Chris in preparing for the 2004 Philmont trek. I was immediately impressed by his ability, intelligence and dedication, but ultimately it was the sincerity and warmth of his personality that made you realize what a special human being he was. Chris personified the ideals of Scouting. He was an inspiration to the boys and I’m sure his spirit is out there now with all the Monmouth Council crews wandering Philmont.

As the current Chairman of the Monmouth Council chapter of the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) it is with great sadness that I read of Chris's passing. I would count Chris as a friend through Scouting, and I would hope that he would have thought of me likewise. While I did not know Chris well, the little contact that I did have with him sincerely impressed me. I last saw Chris at an aborted Philmont shakedown hike last October. Although he was hurting, he put his best face forward and made sure that the boys of Monmouth Council who were going to Philmont this last week had the best training for the best experience they could possibly have. Chris also represented his Eagle promise, made so long ago, very well as long as I have known him. It was with great honor that a few years back that I presented him the Monmouth Council's Marshall W. Errickson Distinguished Eagle Scout award. Learning about all the things he was involved with for youth, his community and his professional made me want to try and emmulate just a small fraction of the impact he was having on those around him. He will be missed by all, but especially the youth of the Monmouth Counicl of Boy Scouts and the Scouting movement. When roll call is next sounded, he will simply be marked down as....gone home.

To the Family and Friends of Chris Chris was one of those who knew why we do what we do in Scouting because he knew "it's all about the Youth". While he expended many hours working with adults planing activites, which is not always easy, he always was focused on the boys. He was so pleasant to be around and work with. With Chris in charge I always knew that things were under control. For sometime when I told friends of Chris's medical condition I would tear up. My friends would know of my deep pain. I understood for some time that the end was comming. Today at work when I saw the e-mail I cried at my desk knowing that a true friend had passed. My wish for my friends who read this is that in your life you might find a friend as wonderful as Chris was for me. We did not interact regularly but I will treasure all my memories.
