I was just putting my 2 year old to bed and lately hearing stories about how school has changed so much since I was in grade school. I’m now 41 and for some reason Mrs. Picerno came to mind as she was my favorite teacher (5th grade). Sad to learn of her passing, but I hope her family knows that her students still think of her and how much they admired her. I can only hope my son has someone like her as a teacher.

Diana Picerno was my son Steven's teacher. She had a way of reaching out and touching her students through her amazing gift of patience and kindness. When Steven was in her class, the students did a project to honor her by making 1000 origami paper cranes and sending them to her with all of their good wishes for better health and my daughter Steffi did an article about Mrs. Picerno for the school paper about how she made a significant impact on her students lives with the wonderful way that she taught them. She will be missed by all but the treasury of memories that she left all of us with will last a lifetime. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of her family and to the many lives that she touched

I hope Diana's family knows just how valued and cherished she was here at school. Having shared a common school with her for 17 years, I can tell yu that this sentiment was universal througout the district. She was a gentle, loving teacher who had a great impact on many, many students. As her colleague, knowing her was a special blessing. She always had something kind to say, was never negative or even "down", and would help you in any way possible. There were times she gave me a ride to work when she could easily have said no~ I was never ready to leave school when she was, and she'd just wait. That's Diana~ whatever you need is more important. I'm so sorry for your loss. We were all blessed to have known her.

Although I only knew Diana for a short amount of time, her impact on me is significant. I have always admired Diana's immeasurable patience, endless positive attitude, and her ability to calmly accept life's challenges with incredible grace and humor. Diana’s gift of teaching coupled with her kind heart blessed many young and impressionable hearts and minds throughout the decades, not to mention those who were lucky enough to work with her. Diana will be sorely missed. My deepest and heartfelt sympathy goes out to you during this difficult time.
