Obituary of Brother Basil Gregory O'Rourke

Brother Basil Gregory O’Rourke, F.S.C., 85, of Lincroft, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He was born in New York, New York. He received his Holy Habit of the Christian Brothers on September 7, 1939. He received a Bachelors of Arts degree in history from Manhattan College, Riverdale, New York in 1950; and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from St. John’s University, Brooklyn, New York in 1959. Brother Gregory’s assignments included St. Cecilia’s School and Bishop Loughlin, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Bradley School, Manchester, N.H., St. Augustine’s School, Bronx, N.Y., De La Salle College, Washington, D.C., De La Salle School, Detroit, Michigan, Christian Brothers Academy, Syracuse, N.Y., Christian Brothers Academy, Albany, N.Y., Manhattan Prep School, New York City, Cardinal Spellman High School, Bronx, N.Y., Christian Brothers College, Memphis, Tennessee, La Salle Institute, Troy, N.Y., Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft, and Manhattan College, New York City. The viewing will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at De La Salle Hall, 810 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, from 2:00 to 4:30 P.M. and 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 A.M. at De La Salle Hall. Interment will follow at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Marlboro Township.
