Obituary of Joan Margaret Johnes Elman

Joan Margaret Johnes Elman, 80, of Oakland, died May 27, 2010. She lived most of her life in Freehold, and was a graduate of Douglass College and Rutgers University. Joan taught first and third grades in the Freehold Township school system for 32 years. She was a communicant of St. Rose Lima of Church and an active volunteer for Freehold Borough Little League and Babe Ruth League baseball. In retirement she was a member of theater groups, loved to travel and was an avid reader. She is survived by her two sons, Grant Elman of Hawthorne, New Jersey and Paul (and Janet) Elman, of Arlington, Virginia, and four granddaughters, Kate, Tena, Grace and Julia. Visitation will be on Friday, May 28, 2010 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold. The family also will receive visitors on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 10:30 AM at St. Rose of Lima Church followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.
