Obituary of Salome Bodnarchuk
Salome “Sadie” Bodnarchuk, of Freehold peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 12, 2011 in the caring hands of the wonderful staff at Jersey Shore Center, Eatontown.
Sadie was born on March 3, 1915 in Brooklyn. N.Y. She was a lifelong resident of Freehold. She worked in the Freehold area for Fred Polchak for 25 years. Sadie and her husband owned and operated Millhurst Tavern for many years. Sadie loved travelling, especially to Florida, going to Atlantic City with her friends, horse racing, dog racing and many other outdoor activities.
Sadie was very proud of her Lithuanian heritage and was a Past President of the Lithuanian Club, Freehold. She was a member of the Rosary Altar Society for St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold and called Freehold “the only place to live.”
Sadie loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and never stopped talking about them. Sadie was never at a loss for words of wisdom whenever she was with them.
Sadie was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Salome Pukorse who were born in Lithuania; her husband, Charles Bodnarchuk; and grandchildren, Dennis, William, and Christopher.
She is survived by her loving sons, William Wright, Tampa, Florida, Gerald Bodnarchuk, West
End, and Mitchell Bodnarchuk, Naples, Florida; three daughters-in-law; seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. Sadie will be missed by all whose lives she touched including all of her friends at Jersey Shore Center and Hudson Manor.
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at the parish cemetery.
