Obituary of Elizabeth S.M. von Bissing

Elizabeth S.M. von Bissing, 91, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dudley Miller, III of Freehold, died Friday, December 9, 2011 at home. Mrs. von Bissing graduated from Miss Fine’s School, Princeton, and attended William Smith College, Geneva, New York. During World War II she was employed by U. S. Army Signal Corps, Fort Monmouth. While living in New York after her marriage, she was employed by I.B.M. Corporate Headquarters. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Freehold; Monmouth Court House Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; and the Junior League of the City of New York. Mrs. von Bissing was a great granddaughter of Elizabeth Smith Miller, inventor of the bloomer costume; was a cousin of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and a great-great granddaughter of Gerrit Smith, noted abolitionist and philanthropist. Mrs. von Bissing was predeceased by her husband, Baron Alexander Moritz von Bissing, formerly of Frankfurt/Main, Germany; a brother, C. Dudley Miller, IV; and her sisters, Florence M. Hunter and Marion M. Mayer. Surviving are five nephews and a niece. Private arrangements are under the direction of the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold.
