Obituary of Rodney R. King
Rodney R. King, 90, of Oakhurst died Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Jersey Shore Center, Eatontown. Mr. King was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and had resided in Freehold Township from 1966 to 1980, in Oakhurst from 1980 until 1993, Berkeley Township from 1993 to 2002, and Howell Township from 2002 to 2009 before returning to Oakhurst.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a telephone repair and installation technician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local No. 3, New York City for 20 years before his retirement 20 years ago. Prior to that, he was employed for New York Bell Telephone Company, for 25 years.
Mr. King was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine R.C. Church, Freehold Township; a member of the Barbershop Quartet Chapters of Toms River and Red Bank; and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
His wife of 56 years, Eleanor D. King, died in 2009.
Surviving are two sons, Raymond V. King and his wife Marian, and Mark King and his wife Joann; three daughters, Suzanne De Grande and her husband Peter, Bernadette King, and Georgette Tucholski and her husband Tom; and ten grandchildren, Adam, Daniel, Matthew, Michael, Danielle, Kelly, Jonathan, Ryan, Giovanni, and Luciana.
The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. Memorial donation to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.
