I first met Peter Stark in the late 1980s in a performance for the Savoyard Light Opera. We performed together in quite a few over the years and went to many professional and amateur productions together. A production of 'Two Trains Running' at the Huntingdon Theatre included the line 'He gonna give me my ham' which led to a long-standing joke between us with the 'ham' being more about bad acting than comestible. His wit and intelligence were both amazing and I frequently contacted him for views on Shakespeare, Middle East politics and Aramaic (only kidding about the latter!). After Donna and I had left Massachusetts for Cornwall in 2004, Peter stayed in regular contact and came to England in 2008. We went together to see a Royal Shakespeare Company marathon - the complete history plays of Shakespeare performed in chronological order over 4 days. Amazing but exhausting. Peter, of course, had many insights into both the history and the plays and pointed out where Shakespeare had erred. He then came to stay with us in Cornwall - a trip he hoped to reprise if his health would permit. His last email to me was December 27 when he asked me the English pronunciation of 'gew gaw' - ever the perfectionist. Donna and I will miss him immensely.

Peter was very dear to us in more ways than can be told. His memory will forever be a blessing to all whom he touched, and there were so very many. The world has lost an extraordinary human being and we have lost a very dear friend who can never be replaced. We love you Peter.

I met Peter in my first production with the Savoyard Light Opera Company of Carlisle in 1990. It was Little Mary Sunshine, and he was hilarious as Corporal Billy Jester. After not seeing him for many years, I had only recently begun to reconnect with him. He crewed backstage at the Vokes Playhouse when I appeared there in A Little Night Music, and I was very recently directed by him in a staged reading of Mary Rose with the Sudbury Savoyards. I had the pleasure of auditioning/competing with him for the lead in The Man Who Came To Dinner, all the while joking and encouraging each other. I was so happy to see signs that his life was starting to turn after all the tragedies that he's had to face. And now, I am still in a state of quiet shock. A talented, kind, passionate, intelligent, funny, sensitive soul has left us.....but I'm so glad he was here. My heart goes out to his family and friends....נוח על משכבך בשלום

My first memory of Peter was in the fall of 2009 when auditioning for The Man Who Came to Dinner with the Concord Players. His larger than life persona both onstage and off made that experience and production amazing. He was a brilliant actor and a wonderful friend. RIP Peter...you will be missed. Heaven has certainly added a new voice to the choir! God Bless you my friend...

I was in the audience when Peter gave a wonderful performance in "The Man who came to Dinner". I was absorbed in the experience and delighted by the ensemble cast in which Peter was the shining star. He was so loved and respected by his theater community and I know they are reeling from his tragic death. My sympathy to his family and friends and I pray his memory will be a blessing to you all.

Peter was a wonderful, loving and erudite friend, who brought the best in everyone around him and demanded great things from himself. Every opportunity I had to work with him in theater was enlightening, and his stories were among the best I've ever heard. He will be missed, and I hope to follow his example in life.

I knew Peter from the B'nai Brith Youth Organization BBYO summer Program I attended in Starlight Pennsylvania in 1988.There was a 4 week course called Kallah, aong with a 3 week course called International Leadership Training Conference or I.L.T.C. for short that Peter was the camp director of. I have so many memories connected to that summer and Peter is a part of so many. Not necessarily specific things, but the good feelings in my heart in general from that summer.Peter heped a lot of us prepare for a B'nai Mitzvah during the Kallah part of the summer. I have photos on his page that I tagged him in on Facebook where we had been in touch a bit the last few years. I had entered various contests where voting from friends was involved and Peter was always one of the few who said he took the time to vote, always with some funny note attached to remind me of his reat wit and sense of humor. He will be missed! Love, Ziva

Dear Family and Friends of Peter, I am one of the many people in Massachusetts whose life has been enriched through knowing and working with Peter. He was alway so enthusiastically, delightfully passionate about the shows we worked on together, full of trivia, history, humor, and background for every character, scene, costume, and prop. His witty commentary enlivened rehearsals, emails, and meetings. Peter was an effortless actor- or rather one who made the craft seem effortless by dint of his skill and preparation. His Jack Point is and will always be the ultimate for me- the only time Gilbert and Sullivan ever made me cry. Peter was also a prolific thinker and writer, and I have enjoyed many delightful conversations and email exchanges with him over the past 17 years. . Peter spoke with great warmth of his dearly loved family members in New Jersey, Washington, Omaha, and Israel, and shared his great joy upon reuniting with family members in Paris. And I also had many conversations with him about teaching and his work at SSDS. I know that my theater life with Peter is only one small part of this amazing man. I am having a hard time understanding and believing that we will not have Peter with us going forward. My heart goes out to all of you. I will remember Peter with the deepest affection and respect. My prayers are with all of you Deede Bergeron Natick, MA Friend and fellow member of the Sudbury Savoyards

Goodbye Peter, our amazing stage director. I knew you for such a short time, yet I'll cherish every conversation we had. You were exactly the kind of person I hope to be someday: a scholar, a passionate actor and a mensch. Rest easy as your actors carry on the work you started.

Although I did not know or work with Peter personally, I knew him from the Sudbury Savoyards. I saw his talents on the stage as well as Mary Rose which he directed last summer. He was a talented man and his passing is a great loss to community theatre. My deep condolences to all of you. Debbie Crane

Peter was an inspiration and left a mark on my heart. I feel quite lucky to have had the chance to work with such a talent! It comforts me knowing that Peter is in a much better place than this world and I know he will always have a special front row/center seat now in the heavenly theatre which will enable him to watch each and every 1 of our shows from above throughout the years to come. I will dearly miss Peter as I was looking forward to hopefully working with him again. My hope is that his production at the Savoyards, Ruddigore, will go off without a hitch and will uphold Peter's vision. Dear Peter, rest now my friend. Thank you for sharing your wisdow, talent, and friendship. Godspeed!

Peter and I were working together closely when he died, with me assisting him in his stage directing of the upcoming Ruddigore. He mapped out a detailed path for the production, and we all intend to carry out those plans. I met Peter in 1988 during my first Gilbert and Sullivan performance. As Peter's stage partner, I had a marvelous time getting to know him, learning from his experience and insight, and enjoying his wit, intelligence, and broad knowledge of just about everything! What a great mind he had! We went on to perform together several times and each time I marveled at his talent and his craft. I can't believe he's really lost to us. He was working so hard to improve his health and strength, and I was hopeful that he was on the upswing. He said he was. This sudden end of such a great, generous man is a terrible loss for all who knew and loved him. He believed in me more than I believed in myself, and I will miss him so much. I send my condolences to his family members who must now write the epilogue of this remarkable man's life story. May you find strength in one another to face this sorrow, and may dear Peter rest in peace.

Words cannot express the sadness I feel at the tragic loss of this kind and generous man. Peter meant a great deal to all the local theatre groups that he worked with, both on the stage and behindh the scenes. We will miss him terribly.

I met Peter at an audition and it was perhaps the best audition experience I have ever had. Peter was remarkable in how he cared for us and worked with us even within just a simple audition. My condolences go to his friends and family.
