Obituary of Harry Holmes
Harry “Dewey” Holmes, 95, of Marlboro Township died Friday, January 13, 2012 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel Township. He was born in Marlboro Township and had resided in Jamesburg before moving to Marlboro Township in 1945.
He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II.
Mr. Holmes was fire chief at Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital where he was employed for 38 years before his retirement in 1979.
He was a member of the Old Brick Reformed Church, Marlboro Township where he served as an elder and deacon; a Past President of the Marlboro Township School Board; a life member of the Jamesburg Fire Department; and a member of Olive Branch Lodge No. 16, F.& A.M., Freehold.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marie Miles Holmes, in 2008.
Surviving are a son, Dewey Holmes, Howell Township; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and William Hogan, Marlboro Towship; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Old Brick Reformed Church, Marlboro on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at the church cemetery.
