Obituary of Malvin L. Shar
Malvin L. Shar, 89 of Freehold passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012. He was born July 9, 1922 in Bronx NY and lived in Monmouth County most of his life. Malvin was a WWII veteran serving in the US Army 328th Infantry Regiment of the 26th Infantry Division, known as the Yankee Division. Wounded in combat, he received a Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge for his actions in the Lorraine Campaign. He was a brilliant man who was passionate about his career as an electronic engineer with the Research and Development Laboratory of Fort Monmouth. He retired in 1999 after 53 years of combined service. He was extremely patriotic and volunteered for 2 tours in Viet Nam as a civilian engineer, earning a “Civilian Service in Combat” award. During Desert Storm he worked in the underground Emergency Center providing support to troops in combat. Malvin was part of the research team at Camp Evans during the time of its greatest achievements in electronic warfare and scientific development. He received numerous performance awards and commendations which included one for a design which was patented by both the US and Canada, and he was involved in the development of communication equipment used in the first successful U.S. space satellites. He was an amateur radio enthusiast (call sign W2CVN) and was devoted to his family who he continuously inspired with his lifelong quest for knowledge. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law June and Mike Zagury, a son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Debbie Shar a daughter Cindy Shar, his grandchildren, Lori and Robert Lutzky, Kenny and Lisa Rossi, Jesse Shar, Chris Shar, Bobby Donahue and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown. Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
