Obituary of Howard E. Coyne

Howard E. “Gene” Coyne, 84, of Freehold died Friday, February 17, 2011 at home. He was born in Trenton and was lifelong Freehold resident. Mr. Coyne was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was employed at the United States Post Office, Freehold from 1944 until his retirement in 1982. Following his retirement from the post office he was a court aide in the Monmouth County Court House, Freehold from 1983 to 1994. He was also employed at Wood’s Pharmacy, Freehold. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold. He was an Ex-Captain and former Vice President of Engine and Hose Company No. 1 of the Freehold Fire Department; an Ex-Chief and Past President of the Freehold Fire Department; a charter member of the Freehold Fire Department Ex-Chiefs Association, a former treasurer of the Freehold Fireman’s Relief Association; and a member of the Freehold Exempt Fireman’s Association. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 54 and a former member of the Freehold Council No. 1672, Knights of Columbus, both of Freehold. His wife, Barbara Cottrell Coyne, died in 1993. Surviving are two sons, Patrick E. Coyne and Timothy E. Coyne and his wife Jean; a daughter, Regina C. Buble and her husband William; two grandchildren; and his companion, Edna Black. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at the parish cemetery. Firemen’s services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 7:15 p.m. Memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
