Obituary of Frederck George Guth
Frederick George Guth Sr., 93, devoted husband and father, passed away suddenly on February 28, 2012. Beloved wife of 69 years, Hazel Guth, followed him to heaven on March 2. Born in Newark on February 9, 1919, Fred moved to Freehold in 1931. For the past three years he resided at the Woodlands in Plainfield. Fred was a 50 year member of Liberty Grange #99, a 60 year member of the First United Methodist Church of Freehold and a member of the Monmouth County Tree Conservation Society. Throughout his life Fred worked as a farmer, baker, textile mill worker and master metal machinist, most recently with the Gusmer Corporation in Lakewood. His hobbies included farming, reading, trains, tractors, metal working and chickens, but his family was most important to him and brought him the greatest pleasure. Fred leaves behind a legacy of quiet gentleness and goodness. He was much loved by his friends at the Woodlands and was honored as past King of Hearts and most recently with wife Hazel as first runners-up for King and Queen. Fred is survived by three children, Frederick Guth III of Annapolis, MD; Philip Guth and wife Barbara of Freehold; Betty Jane Guth-Snyder and husband Scott of North Plainfield; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10th at the First United Methodist Church, 91 West Main Street, Freehold, NJ 07728. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
