Obituary of Seymour L. Hersh
Seymour L. Hersh, age 84, of Marlboro, passed away on March 7. Seymour was born in Newark, New Jersey and grew up in Irvington. With his B.S. in Chemistry, Seymour accepted a position as a Photographic Scientist and Engineer, at Ft. Monmouth, where he worked in various capacities for 32 years, having moved into technical management after receiving his MBA from Monmouth College, in 1971. Upon retirement, Seymour joined CACI Technologies where he worked as the manager of the New Jersey operation and later Public Relations Manager for more than 20 years. As part of a select research team, Seymour shares the recognition of their accomplishments with his name appearing on more than 20 U.S. patents.
Seymour was actively involved in the government contractor community, including the Association of the United States Army, the Association of Old Crows, and the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association, where he held numerous board and officer positions. He was also the 1997 president of the Industrial Representatives Association.
During his spare time, Seymour enjoyed tinkering, and could repair almost anything, although his passion was “Magic!” Working under the stage name of “Lew Hersh,” he mystified and entertained audiences across the country for more than 65 years and used this gift to entertain his fellow soldiers during WWII as part of the USO. Seymour was an active member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM) Middletown Ring 123.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and is survived by his wife of 60 years, Muriel, son Steven, daughter Randi and husband Larry Gottfried, daughter Judi and husband Andrew Lesser, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild with another to arrive shortly.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family in celebrating Seymour’s life at noon today, Friday March 9th, at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold. Interment following services will be at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin.
