Obituary of Alfred La Mura

Alfred J. La Mura, 85, of Freehold Township passed away peacefully on Thursday March 22, 2012 at home with family by his side. He was born and raised in Morganville and graduated from Matawan High School in 1945. Upon his graduation he went into the United States Army and was stationed in Germany where he was secretary to the General transcribing court marshals and procuring housing for GI’s. Al worked in construction for many years and was a building inspector for Marlboro Township. He retired from Damon G. Douglas Construction in 1988. He also served 3 terms on the Marlboro Board of Education and was a charter member of the Shrewsbury Coral. He sang with the Walt Steager Band and was involved with Community Theater. He was a parishioner of Saint Francis of Assisi in Lake Placid, Florida for 15 years. Al is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years Margaret (Taylor) LaMura; his sister Leona Boyd; his brother Joseph LaMura. Al is survived by his son Al and daughter-in-law Jeannie LaMura, son Eugene LaMura and daughter Ruthann Thompson, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held Monday, March 26, 2012 from 6 to 8 PM at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold, N.J. 07728. Funeral services will be held 1PM March 27, 2012 at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road Wrightstown, N.J.
