Obituary of Berthold Berendt

Berthold Berendt, 78, of Manalapan Township died Thursday, March 29, 2012 at home. Mr. Berendt was born in New Brunswick and had resided in Manalapan Township for the past 51 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and was discharged with the rank of sergeant. He then served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the American Legion. Mr. Berendt was a truck driver for Hess, Chevron, and Gulf Oil Company before his retirement. He was predeceased by two children, Bert Charles Berendt and Bonnie Lee Berendt. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Sarah Young Berendt; a daughter, Linda Kelich, Jackson; a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Eleanor Berendt; and two grandchildren, Alana and Peter Kelich. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent.
