Obituary of Jay O. Petersen

Jay O. Petersen, 77, of Freehold Township died April 26, 2012 at The Manor, Freehold Township. Mr. Petersen was a U.S. Coast Guard Post Security Unit veteran during the Korean War. He was a financial aid director for Monmouth University, Rutgers University, and most recently Mercer County Community College before his retirement. Jay, a passionate golfer, was educational director of the New Jersey State Golf Association Scholarship Program for 37 years. He loved traveling with family including a reunion in Norway, winters in Naples, Florida, and summers in New Hampshire. He was a member of Olive Branch Lodge No. 16, F.& A.M., Freehold. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jane; a son, Eric; a daughter Kristin and her husband Randy; and a sister, Sonja Bennett. Funeral services will be held privately. Memorial donations to the NJSGA Scholarship Foundation, 1700 Galloping Hill Road, Kenilworth, NJ 07033 would be appreciated. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
