Obituary of Thalia Amoruso
Thalia Amoruso, of Freehold lost her long fight on May 21, 2012 at home where she resided with her daughter and her family. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she moved to New York as a child. Coming from a very artistic family, she sang for the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. Ahead of her time, she decided to give up her singing career for marriage and a family. She worked for many years at Shell Oil Company and later moved to Freehold, New Jersey where she worked for the Freehold Township Tax Assessor’s Office until she retired. She was a long-time resident of Freehold, where she and her family planted their roots. A devout Roman Catholic, you could always find her praying for others. A selfless woman, she will be missed by her family and friends.
She is predeceased by her husband, Louis J. Amoruso, her sisters, Flora Salvio and Clara Vaccaro, and her brother, Armond Vaccaro. She is survived by her daughter, Marcinta Umansky, her son-in-law, Gerald, her grandson, Marc, and her granddaughter, Elyse. She lived for her family. She was very proud of their accomplishments and very supportive of their endeavors. She always had a smile on her face.
A private mass will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Rose of Lima Mausoleum, Freehold. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis Tennessee 38105.
