Obituary of Charles R. Dorn

Charles R. Dorn, 86, of Freehold Township died Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Applewood Estates Health Care Center, Freehold Township. Mr. Dorn was born in Spring Lake and had previously resided in Avon-by-the Sea, Freehold Township, and Howell Township before returning to Freehold Township. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4374, Freehold. Mr. Dorn was a 50 year member of the National Railway Historical Society. His hobby was building miniature steam engines. He was a facilities manager at a large warehouse in Cranbury Township retiring in 1988. He held a N.J. State Domestic Water S-3 license, a Collection System C-3 license, and a Black Seal in Charge (High Pressure Steam Boiler) license. His wife, Betty Dorn, died on April 4, 2012. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lisa Dorn, Honesdale, Pennsylvania; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Thomas Vairette, Howell Township; two grandchildren, Peter and Elizabeth Dorn; and several nieces and nephews in Canada. Private services will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold.
