Obituary of Raymond F. Sheehan

Raymond F. “Boots” Sheehan, Sr., 82, of The Villages, Howell Township died peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday, July 9, 2012 at Applewood Estates Healthcare Center, Freehold Township. He was born in Spring Lake and had resided in Freehold before moving to The Villages. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a supervisor of the Borough of Freehold Street Department where he was employed for 21 years before his retirement in 2001. Mr. Sheehan was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, Freehold. He served as Chief of the Freehold Fire Department from 1976 to 1978. He was a member and Ex-Captain of Engine and Hose Company No. 1 of the Freehold Fire Department, a member of the New Jersey State Fire Chief’s Association, Freehold Fire Department Ex-Chiefs Association, and the Freehold Exempt Fireman’s Association. He was a 59 year member of Monmouth Post No. 54, American Legion, Freehold and a member of the Howell Township Senior Citizens Club. Surviving are his wife, Rita Cappelli Sheehan; two sons, Raymond F. Sheehan, Jr. and his wife Polly, Jackson Township and Stephen Sheehan and his wife Amelia, Freehold; a daughter, Colleen Gazire and her husband John, Howell Township; a brother-in-law, Vincent Cappelli; and his grandchildren, Erin Sheehan, Zachary and Melanie Gazire, and Patrick and Emily Forman. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. American Legion services will be held at 7:00 p.m. and Freehold Fire Department services will be held at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Friday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at the parish cemetery. Memorial donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905 would be appreciated.
