Obituary of Donald E. Applegate

Donald E. Applegate, Jr., 68, of Millstone Township died Saturday, August 11, 2012 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in Red Bank. He was a graduate of Freehold High School. Mr. Applegate operated Applegate and Mendini, a mason contractor company in Holmdel Township before his retirement. He had a love for animals especially cats and dogs. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Susan Lamb Applegate; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald E. Applegate, III and Tara Applegate; two daughters and sons-in-law, Heather and Leonardo Ponzio and Karen and Albert Verdolino; a sister, Donna Atkinson; and eight grandchildren, Collin and Drew Applegate, Vincent, Nicole, and Chevelle Verdolino, and Daniel, Ryan, and Cody Ponzio. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Perrineville. Memorial donations to the Associated Humane Society, Tinton Falls would be appreciated.
