Obituary of Thomas E. Lenahan
Thomas E. Lenahan, Sr., 90, of Edison died Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Whispering Knoll Assisted Living, Edison. Mr. Lenahan was born in Bayonne.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was attached to the United State Marine Corps, Third Division and participated in the Battles of Peleliu, Saipan, and Tinian and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Medal with one star, Letter of Commendation, American Theater Medal, Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Lenahan was an electrician for Union Carbide Company, Bound Brook where he was employed from 1974 until his retirement in 1988. He was employed at Hess Oil Refinery from 1958 to 1974.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, South Plainfield. He served as president of Tri-County Seniors from 1997 to 2007. Mr. Lenahan was a former councilman for the Borough of Englishtown and member of the Manalapan-Englishtown School Board. He was a coach in the Manalapan Little League from its founding in 1961 until 1972.
He was predeceased in 2002 by his former wife, Regina Lenahan.
Surviving are his children, Thomas E. Lenahan, Jr. and his wife Ann, Eileen Cramer and her husband Steven, and Jeffrey Lenahan and his wife Sarah; a sister, Frances Wunderlin and her husband Charles; grandchildren, Tracey Li, Laura Berness, Adam Kelly, Michael Lenahan, and Caroline Lenahan; and three great grandchildren, Sawyer and Grant Berness and Katherine Li.
Visitation will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Monday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 would be appreciated.
