Obituary of Cassy Florence Yuhas
Cassy Florence Yuhas, 92, of Englishtown passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Yuhas was born in Jamesburg and had resided in Englishtown for most of her life.
“Mom” as she was affectionately called by all her friends and customers, operated the Manalapan Luncheonette for over 40 years until her retirement. Mom had a special gift of making people feel welcomed and at home when they came in to share a home cooked meal at the luncheonette. She started a business that created a sense of community between neighbors and business people. The first thing people did when they came in for a meal was to look for Mom to share a piece of good news, discuss the comings and goings of things in the community, or just to sit and have her “listen” to them discuss what was happening in their lives. The twinkle in Mom’s eyes and chuckle when she saw you, made you feel important and you knew that all was right with the world when you left the luncheonette after eating a great meal and chatting with a wonderful woman.
Throughout the years, mom shared her secrets in making good “home-cooked” food with her children and grandchildren. Many of her grandchildren worked side by side with her learning how to add a” little of this” and a “little of that” to make a memorable meal. There were no written recipes, instead it was her natural instinct to create delicious meals that “stuck” to your ribs and made you reminisce about your own childhood favorite foods.
She was the widow of James Yuhas and was also predeceased by three children, Patricia, Richard, and Michael. She is survived by her seven sons, James Yuhas, Jr., David Yuhas, Philip Yuhas, Fred Yuhas, Victor Yuhas, Vincent Yuhas, and Anthony Yuhas; four daughters, Barbara Stevens, Stella Earp, Dorothy Lamberson, and Ann Yuhas; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.
