Obituary of Susan Lewis Spencer

Susan Lewis Spencer, 68, of Freehold died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Spencer was born in Neptune Township and was a lifelong resident of Freehold. She was a graduate of Freehold Regional High School, Class of 1962 and Trenton State College, Class of 1966. She was a 6th grade teacher in the Freehold Township School System for 33 years before her retirement. Mrs. Spencer was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold; served as directress of the Altar Guild of the church, and a member of the church’s choir for 40 years. She enjoyed time at the shore especially the Manasquan and Bay Head beaches. She was predeceased by her parents, Percy J. and Mildred Simons Lewis. She is survived by her husband of 45 years Warren Spencer; and Frances Hurley; Jennifer DeLellis, her children Dan and Stephanie DeLellis; and Jimmy Hurley and his children Spencer and Cole Hurley whom she considered as her family. Visiting hours will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Burial Office and Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 33 Throckmorton Street, Freehold on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold. Memorial donations to St. Peter’s Church Memorial Fund or Altar Guild, S.P.C.A., of the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
