Obituary of Reverand Charles R. Valentine
Rev. Charles R. Valentine, 85, of Freehold Township died Monday, January 28, 2013 at Kennedy Medical Center, Stratford. He was born in Broad Channel, N.Y.
Father Valentine was a graduate of St. Charles College, Baltimore, Maryland and Immaculate Conception Seminary, Darlington. He was ordained on June 12, 1954 in the Diocese of Trenton.
He served as a parish priest at Incarnation Church, Trenton, Our Lady of Mount Virgin, Middlesex, and Guardian Angel Church, Nixon. Father Valentine served as pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Church, Englishtown and St. Joseph’s Church, Perrineville from 1971 until his retirement. Father Valentine was in residence at St. Robert Bellarmine Church for the past six years.
Father Valentine was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Father Valentine was a former chaplain of the Knights of Columbus Council of Trenton. He served as police chaplain in Middlesex and Englishtown.
Surviving are three brothers, John Valentine, Paul Valentine, and Joseph Valentine; and three sisters, Rae Mary Johnston, Joan Flynn, and Mary Vasile.
The Rite of Reception will be held at St. Robert Bellarmine R.C. Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold on Friday at 1:00 p.m. The viewing will be held at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. with Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M. as principle celebrant. The interment will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Perrineville on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations to Smile Train, P.O. Box 96231, Washington, DC 20090-6231 or St. Robert Bellarmine Church would be appreciated. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
