Obituary of Brother Austin Bernabei

Brother Austin Bernabei, F.S.C., 84, of Lincroft died Saturday, February 2, 2013 at De La Salle Hall, Lincroft. He was born in New Rochelle, New York and had received the Holy Habit of the Christian Brothers on September 7, 1950. He was a graduate of Manhattan College, Bronx, New York, received a Master of Science Degree from Catholic University, Washington, D.C. in 1953, and a Master and Doctorate Degree in Nuclear Physics in 1959 and 1964, both from New York University. He completed his Medical Physics Postdoctoral work at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York in 1981. His assignments included St. Raphael’s School, Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Manhattan College, Bronx, New York, Bethlehem University, De La Salle Novitiate and De La Salle Scholasticate, both of Nairobi, Kenya, Rongai Agriculture and Technical School, Rongai, Kenya, Christian Brothers Center, Bronx, New York, St. Martin’s Secondary School, St. Vincent, West Indies, Cathedral High School, El Paso, Texas, La Salle College, Ansfrere, South Africa, and returned to Manhattan College, Bronx, New York prior to his retirement. He has been in residence at De La Salle Hall since 2011. The viewing will be held at De La Salle Hall, Lincroft on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from 10:00 until Noon. A viewing will be held at the Christian Brothers Community-Manhattan College, Bronx, New York on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 3:00 P.M. until 6:45 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 7:15 P.M. Interment will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, New York. Memorial Donations to De La Salle Nursing Development, 810 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, NJ 07738 would be appreciated. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
