Obituary of Miriam Hamburger Eisenberger Parnes
Miriam Hamburger Eisenberger Parnes, of Monroe Township died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 at New York Presbyterian-Columbia Medical Center.
Born in Long Island, NY, she moved to Ringoes before relocating to Livingston. Upon her marriage to Bernard Eisenberger, she lived in Newark before moving to the Colonia section of Woodbridge. In 1971, she moved to the Parlin section of Sayreville. Upon her retirement ten years ago, she resided in Monroe Township.
She graduated from Newark Beth Israel Nursing School in 1956, and she worked for many years at the hospital there until landing the head nursing position in labor and delivery at South Amboy Memorial Hospital. In the mid-1980s, she left that job to take a position in the Psychiatric Department at the Center for Living, Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy.
Always active in the communities she lived, she was honored as Woman of the Year by the Colonia, NJ Chapter of Hadassah. She was an active member of Brandeis and the woman’s groups at the adult community, where she lived.
On May 1 1980, she married Fred Parnes, with whom she traveled extensively and spent her winters with in West Palm Beach, Florida .
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Bernard Eisenberger and her parents Estelle and Emanuel Hamburger.
Surviving are her husband of 33 years, Fred Parnes of Monroe Township; her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Joel Kapit of Perrineville; her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Karen Eisenberger of Potomac, Maryland; son and David and Margaret Eisenberger of Kansas City, Missouri; and her grandchildren, Bryan, Kolton, Raven, Mitchell, Jenna and Corey Eisenberger and Julie and Trevor Kapit; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold. Graveside services will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday at Beth Israel Cemetary in Woodbridge , NJ . Shiva will be observed at her daughter’s home.
