Obituary of Robert A. McNamara

Robert A. McNamara, 78, of Freehold Township died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Jersey City and had resided in Freehold Township since 1966. Mr. McNamara was a graduate of St. Peter’s Preparatory School, Class of 1951 and St. Peter’s College, Class of 1955. He served in the U. S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant after being stationed at the Army Signal Corps School at Fort Monmouth. Mr. McNamara was Manager of Corporate Properties for PSE&G where he was employed for over 36 years before his retirement in 1993. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Colts Neck where he was a CCD teacher and Eucharistic Minister. He was a coach in the Freehold Township Little League, active in Boys Scouts and Indian Guides and a member of the St. John Vianney Parents’ Club. He was a member of the St. Peter’s Preparatory School Alumni Association Board of Directors and a member of the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Mae Rose McNamara and two brothers, William and Vincent McNamara, and his parents, William and Mary McNamara. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mary Joan Carey McNamara; his children, Marybeth Connelly and husband Frank, Missy Quinn and Joe Gallagher, Robert McNamara and wife Elaine, Michael McNamara and wife Carolyn, Joan McNamara and husband Patrick Bohen, Maura Holtz and husband Jeff, and James McNamara and wife, Nancy; a sister, Mary Gibney; his grandchildren, Kevin, Caitlin and husband Stefan, Michael, Colleen, Patrick, Meghan, Katie, Erin, Robert, John, Claire, Patrick, Charlotte, Ella, Maggie, Conor, Reilly, Jimmy, MaryKate, and Molly; a great grandson, Grady; a sister-in-law, Peggy McNamara; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by interment at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.
