Obituary of Ryland Louise Breen
Ryland Louise Breen, 92, of Applewood Estates, Freehold Township died Monday, April 29, 2013 at home. Mrs. Breen was born in Quantico, Virginia and had previously resided in Fairfax, Virginia from 1968 until 2005 when she moved to Freehold Township.
Mrs. Breen was a graduate of Kearny High School, Kearny, NJ. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Confederacy. As a world traveler, Mrs. Breen embraced the history of the various countries in which she resided and those areas that she visited.
She was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine R.C. Church, Freehold Township.
Her husband, Colonel Patrick Joseph Breen, U.S. Army retired died in 1972. She was predeceased by a son, Patrick J. Breen, Jr. in 1997, a granddaughter, Helen Breen in 2013, and a brother, Thomas Hartigan in 1983.
Also, in 1989, she was predeceased by a beloved longtime companion, Colonel Maurice Kaiser, U.S. Army Retired and dear friends, Maurice’s brother-in-law and sister, Charles and Ray Eames.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Louise and Dr. Robert Portadin; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Weber and her husband, William; a sister-in-law, Mary Hartigan; three grandchildren, Jason Robert Portadin and his wife Jennifer, Todd A. Portadin and his wife Michelle, and Catherine O’Bryan and her husband James; four great grandchildren, Raegan Avery Portadin, Ryland Rose Portadin, Maxine Leira Portadin, and Kelly Ellis O’Bryan; three nephews, Colonel Craig Hartigan, U.S.M.C. Retired, Major Timothy Hartigan, U.S.A. F. Retired, and Thomas Hartigan; a niece, Ryland Hartigan; and extended family including Dr. Ronald and Andrea Portadin, Dr. Gary Portadin, Dr. Edna Martin, Andrew Horn, Amy Greeman and Lt. Col James Burr Kaiser, US Army Retired and many other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends scattered world-wide.
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday, May 5 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine R. C. Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold on Monday at 10:00 a.m. The interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Applewood Estates Employee Scholarship fund.
