Obituary of Joseph C. LaMura
Joseph C. LaMura, 93, of Manalapan Township died Sunday, June 16, 2013 at home. Mr. LaMura was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and had resided in the Morganville section of Marlboro Township since childhood before moving to Manalapan in 1989.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1941 to 1945. He participated in the capture and defense of Guadalcanal and ended his service at Quantico.
Mr. LaMura was the Marlboro Township Tax Assessor for many years before his retirement in 1982. He received his New Jersey Tax Assessor Certification from Rutgers University.
Joe was a life member of the Morganville Volunteer Fire Company and a charter member of the Morganville First Aid Squad. He was the first president of the Marlboro Township Little League which he helped start.
Mr. LaMura was a member of the Philip A. Reynolds Detachment, Marine Corps League, Freehold.
He was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter, and bowler.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph C. and Leona Blanc LaMura, a sister, Carmella Pulcrano, and brothers, Fred and Victor Wenzel, and Robert, Frank, Richard, and Al LaMura.
Surviving are his children, Joene Alt, Marlene LaMura and her husband, Jeff Hall, Melanie Rounds, Jan LaMura, and Joseph LaMura, III; a sister, Leona Boyd; his friend and former wife, Hazel LaMura; his grandchildren, John, Janine, and Jay Alt, Charles Rounds, and Jade Dvoraczek; five great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visiting hours will the held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Services with U.S. Marine Corps honors will be held at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Philip A. Reynolds Detachment, Marine Corps League, 50 Waterworks Road, Freehold, NJ 07728 would be appreciated. Marine Corps League service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
