Obituary of Richard D Sten

Richard D. Sten, of Howell Township, passed away suddenly at his home on August 11, 2013. He was born and raised in Quincy, Massachusetts and attended Sacred Heart High School. Richard is the son of John W. and Eileen V. (Young) Sten, and the brother of Albert J. and David B. Sten, all of whom predeceased Richard. In 1967, he married the love of his life, Faith (Luciano) Sten, and they lived together in Quincy with their son Karl until moving to Howell in 1976. Although he began his career as a mortician with the Keohane Funeral Home in Quincy, Mass., Richard changed careers in the late 1960s and joined his brother Albert at McDonalds Corporation. Richard was a valued part of that company for close to 40 years. After many years working in management with the McDonalds Corporation, Richard bought his own McDonald’s franchise in Long Beach, N.Y. in the early 1990s, and he successfully ran that operation until his retirement. Richard is survived by his wife, Faith, and his son, Karl. Richard was a man with big smile, and even bigger heart. Richard will be greatly missed by all his immediate family, his neighbors and friends, as well as by his three nieces, his nephew, his eight grand-nephews and his one grand-niece, who all love him very much. A memorial service in celebration of Richard's life will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2013, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold NJ 07728. A reception for family and friends of Richard will be follow at the Our House Restaurant, 420 Farmingdale Road, Freehold (Farmingdale), NJ 07728, Phone: 732-938-5159. Richard was a strong supporter of the Ronald McDonald House charities, and so his family asks that donations be made in Richard’s name to The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, 267-07 76th Ave., New Hyde Park, NY 11040. http://www.rmhlongisland.org
