Obituary of Mary O. SaulsbyWilliams
Mary O. Saulsby Williams, 72, of Freehold departed this life May 4, 2016 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township.
She was born in Lake City, Florida to parents, Albert M. Saulsby, Sr. and Alberta W. Saulsby, who reared their children to ‘Be doers of the Word”.
She attended primary school in her hometown of Lake City and high school at the Boylan Haven Mather Academy, a private boarding school in Camden, South Carolina.
After graduating in 1961, Mary moved to New Jersey to further her education. She attended Essie Mae’s Beauty School in Elizabeth and practiced as a licensed beautician for more than 15 years. After spending a decade in northern New Jersey, Mary relocated to Freehold.
A few years after moving to central New Jersey, Mary decided to change careers. Mary shifted gears and began working in the Monmouth County educational system, first as a teacher's assistant and later incorporating her love of cooking, she worked as a cafeteria aide. However, Mary’s calling proved deeper than working with children. She worked at Del Monte Foods and Procter & Gamble providing quality control for the Hawaiian Punch fruit drink. Later, Mary joined John L. Montgomery Nursing Home’s food service department for nearly 10 years before moving on to the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission teaching culinary arts and business acumen to inmates. She retired in 2009. She was affectionately known to many as "Bread Pudding Mary," bread pudding being one of her many, many specialties.
Mary was a long-time member of Bethany Baptist Church, Farmingdale, NJ where she was a dedicated and committed member. She served on the culinary committee and the usher ministry.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Albert M. Saulsby, Jr., Edward M. Saulsby and sister, Alberta R. Saulsby Mainer Dodds. She is survived by her children, Sandra M. Williams Cobb (husband Fred D., Sr.), Jaberta C. Williams, Tyrome C. Williams, Timothy E. Williams (fiancée Jamaliah Simmons); 10 grandchildren, brothers, Oliver W. Saulsby (wife Willie Dee) and Louis H. Saulsby (wife Delores), both of Lake City, FL; a sister-in-law, Patricia Saulsby (Greensboro, NC); two aunts, Daisy Williams, Lake City, FL and Marjorie Williams, Bronx, NY, many other relatives and special friends.
The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at Bethany Baptist Church, 243 West Farms Rd, Farmingdale on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the church on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent, NJ.
