Obituary of Edward J. Perdek

Edward J. Perdek, Sr., 85, of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania died Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. He was born in Freehold and had resided in New Jersey for most of his life before retiring to Wilmington, N.C. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and received the Purple Heart Award. Ed was a lifelong self-employed contractor. He built numerous homes over his career including being a “green” contractor by converting old Army barracks into small affordable housing. Building was not only a job, but a passion. He loved gardening and was very generous with his bountiful harvest. Everyone in his neighborhood would benefit from his garden. He also enjoyed picnics, horseshoes, and his nightly bowls of ice cream. He married Loretta Jaziorski on October 25, 1953 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Englishtown. He was predeceased by his wife; two sons, Raymond D. Perdek and Theodore J. Perdek; and sisters, Stephanie Popick, Mary Gedzius, and Esther Stubbs. Surviving are his children, Edward J. Perdek, Jr. and wife Pamela, Kure Beach, N.C. and Lori Lesney and husband Mark, Ebensburg, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Renee Clayton, Vancouver, Washington, Angela Perdek, Freehold, Stacy Perdek, New York City, and Michael and Daniel Lesney, Ebensburg, Pennsylvania; and a great grandchild, Krissy Clayton, Vancouver, Washington. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home,20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Veronica’s Church, Route 9, Howell Township on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.
