Obituary of Margaret E. Ward
Margaret E. Ward, 94, of St. Augustine, Florida died peacefully at home on Friday, May 6, 2016. Mrs. Ward was born in Jersey City, NJ and had resided in the Freehold area before moving to Florida.
She and her husband operated Alps Restaurant, Long Branch and Ward’s Market, Ardena in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
She was a founding volunteer at the former Freehold Area Hospital coffee shop and enjoyed canning, cooking, and holidays with her family. She prepared many dinners for her family and friends as well as strangers without a place to have a meal.
Mrs. Ward was a member of B.P.O. E. Lodge No. 1454 Auxiliary, American Legion Post No. 54 Auxiliary, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4374 Auxiliary, all of Freehold.
Her husband, Edward M. Ward, died in 1982.
Surviving are two sons, Richard E. Ward and William Charles Ward; a daughter, Joan Steinberg; four grandchildren, JoAnne Applegate, Harry “Chip” Applegate, Wendy Ward, and Terence Ward; and two great grandchildren
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent.
