Obituary of Commander David Barkalow USCG
Lt. Commander David Barkalow, USCG, 49, of Freehold died Sunday, October 6, 2013 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in Neptune Township.
He served on the USCGC Mohawk, at Station Crisfield, on the USCGC Hawser, USCGC Sherman, and USCGC Katherine Walker, and USCGC Juniper, and was Company Commander at Training Center, Cape May, and was currently stationed in Washington, D.C.
He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold; a member of Freehold Council No. 1672, Knights of Columbus, Monsignor Kivelitz General Assembly, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post No. 54, and American Legion Riders, all of Freehold. He was a life member of the East Freehold Fire Company, Freehold Township and was the drummer in the Eddie Testa Band.
He was predeceased by his parents, James R. and Patricia Sweeney Barkalow, a brother, Michael Barkalow, and his mother-in-law, Gloria Panepinto.
Surviving are his wife, Jane Marie Panepinto Barkalow; three daughters, Kayley, Ashlyn, and Keara; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Sharon Barkalow and Daniel and Kathy Barkalow; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Richard Kalinauskas and Colleen and Ed Doody; his father-in-law Domenick Panepinto; a brother-in-law, Robert Panepinto and his wife Tammy, and two sisters-in-law, Judith Griffith and husband Guy and Ann Eichhorn and husband Bert; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by interment with full honors at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266-3721 would be appreciated. American Legion services will be held on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus services will be held at 7:30 p.m. East Freehold Fire Company services will be held at 8:00 p.m.
