Obituary of Maureen C Cox
Maureen Cox, (nee Fitzgerald), 74, of Howell Township passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was a graduate of St. Helena’s High School, Bronx, N.Y.
She was active in the Monmouth County Literacy Program and the St. Robert Bellarmine Church Religious program. She also taught in the Title 1 Program for the Howell Township Schools. She retired from the New Jersey School Boards Association in 1995.
Mrs. Cox was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena R.C. Church, Farmingdale where she was a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and a Eucharistic Minister for the Homebound Ministry.
She will be sorely missed by her husband, family, and friends.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, visiting the Jersey Shore, and her many trips to the Caribbean with her husband.
She was predeceased by her parents, Timothy and Catherine Fitzgerald; her sister, Patricia Lorusso; and her extended loving mother, Nicoletta Lorusso.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Vincent R. Cox; four daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and Matthew Flott, Tricia and Paul Romano, Diane and Patrick Gilmore, and Lorraine and Vincent Ernst, her grandchildren, Timothy, Kelly, Alexandra, Kevin, Meghan, Michael, Garrett, Russell, Connor, Kristen, and Griffin; a sister-in-law, Grace Cox; her extended family of Thomas and Lilyane Lorusso, Rita Lorusso, Virginia Saumell, ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena R.C. Church, Farmingdale on Monday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. Memorial donations to the St. Vincent De Paul Society, 31 Asbury Ave. Farmingdale, NJ 07727 would be appreciated.
