Obituary of Brother Francis Bowers

Brother Francis Bowers, F.S.C., 93, of Lincroft died Friday, December 6, 2013 at De La Salle Hall, Lincroft. Brother Bowers was born in New York, New York and received the Holy Habit of the Christian Brothers on June 11, 1942. He graduated Cum Laude from Catholic University, Washington in 1946, attended Manhattan College, New York. He earned his Master of Arts degree from Fordham University, New York in 1952, and his Ph. D in 1960 from Catholic University, Washington, DC. He was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa at Catholic University; a member of the English Institute, Modern Language Association, and the Board of Trustees tuition Scholarship, Catholic University. His teaching assignments included Ascension School, New York, St. Augustine’s School, Brooklyn, St. Peter’s School, Staten Island, De La Salle College, Washington, DC, and Manhattan College, Bronx. The viewing will be held at De La Salle Hall, 810 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft on Monday from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M., on Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M., at Christian Brothers Center at Manhattan College, 4415 Post Road, Bronx, New York 10471, and Wednesday from 9:15 to 9:45 A.M. at the Chapel of De La Salle and His Brothers, Manhattan College, 4513 Manhattan College Parkway, Riverdale, New York followed by the Funeral Liturgy at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, New York. Memorial donations to De La Salle Nursing Development, 810 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, NJ 07738 would be appreciated.
