Obituary of Hope Doxsee Bulk
Hope Doxsee Bulk passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014. Born on January 29, 1924, she would have
turned 90 years old this birthday.
Hope was born in Islip, Long Island, New York to Marion and Oscar Doxsee.
In high school summer school, she would meet the love of her life, David Reid Bulk. They married in 1946 and later
moved to Freehold, New Jersey where they raised their seven children.
Hope is preceded in death by her husband,David and her son, Donald O. Bulk.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Bahret; her children, Jac Bulk and wife Susan; David Bulk and wife Jeanette; daughter-in-law, Patricia Connelly Bulk; Robin Bulk Wade and husband Mac; Daniel Bulk; Patricia Bulk Adams and husband Fred; and Peter Bulk and wife Gloria. She is also survived by her loving sixteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Hope and her husband David shared a love for trotter and pacer horses and for years you could find her cheering
for the horses they owned together, especially her Model Way and Blue Eagle.
Busy raising seven children, Hope always found time to give of herself to different volunteer activities, such as Freehold Hospital and her favorite outreach where she was an icon, St. Peter's Thrift Shop. She touched the lives of so many with her loving and
caring spirit.
Hope deeply loved her children but through the years there were many others who became part of
the family. When asked why she took them in, Hope simply replied "because I knew they had no where else to go".
That's the kind of heart she had. Hope's grandchildren all have wonderful memories they shared with their NaNa.
Watching her face light up as she met her great grandchildren was truly a gift.
Hope also loved the beach, shopping at dollar stores, and mostly of late, her dogs Chico and Pig. She found great joy
being surrounded by family and friends. We loved the sound of her laugh and the memory of it will remain in our hearts
forever. She will be deeply missed but we find comfort in the knowledge that when Jesus came to take her home,
her questions were finally answered.
A memorial is planned for Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 1-3pm at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center St., Freehold, N.J. If you would like to honor her life, donations may be sent to the SPCA or any charity that is dear to you.
