Obituary of Jacqueline F. Zlotkin

Jacqueline “Jackie” F. Zlotkin, 91, of Monroe Township left us peacefully on January 11, 2014, just one day before her 92nd birthday and will always be remembered in our hearts. Jackie lived life to the fullest and in doing so filled the lives of so many others with her presence. Born on January 12, 1922, Jackie called New Jersey her home for all of 91 years residing in Freehold, Point Pleasant, New Egypt, Monmouth Beach, and for the past 13 years at The Ponds in Monroe Township. She graduated from Dickinson High School, Jersey City in 1939 and studied nursing at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch graduating in 1943. She worked at Margaret Hague Hospital, Jersey City and at Monmouth Medical Center. Jackie not only lived healthcare, she was married to it when she joined spirits with her husband and the love of her life, Dr. Louis C. Zlotkin who passed away eight years ago. Jackie worked with her husband in his practice for 26 years and served for two years as President of the Doctor’s Wives Association at Freehold Area Hospital, now known as CentraState Medical Center. Her life was a celebration of life itself. A cancer survivor, she lived independently for eight years after her husband’s passing. Jackie will be remembered as a woman of class and grace, always perfectly dressed and appointed; who enjoyed doing for others, whether is was for family, friends, or strangers. She loved to knit, crochet and do needlepoint, and knitted socks for soldiers, and ensured that every family member had a hand-made blanket. Jackie looked forward to spending time with her friends, and was always ready for her Monday night canasta game or to go shopping or have lunch; but Jackie found her greatest joy in being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jackie was the daughter of Irving and Carrie Feilman, sister of Janet Cott, and sister-in-law of Allan Cott. She is survived by her cousin, David Postrion and his wife, Pat, Glen Rock. She is also survived by her three daughters, Diane Carlton, wife of Alan Carlton, Robbinsville, Michele Zlotkin, Delray Beach, Florida, and Jann Hendry, wife of Brian Hendry, Las Vegas, Nevada. She leaves behind her adored grandchildren, Marc and Karen Carlton, Jackson Township, Lisa and Bill Bunting, New York, NY, J.J., Jamie and Josie Hendry. She also leaves behind her beloved great grandchildren, Alivia Rachel Carlton, Justin Timothy Carlton, Noah Wilson, and Abigail Page Bunting. She is survived by her favorite nieces, Carol Rippetoe, Joanne Tobias, and Janice Scherer; nephews, Dr. Jeffrey Kaye and Jay Zlotkin; sister-in-law, Harriet Zlotkin, best friend, Sylvia Schoenstein, and awesome companion and caregiver, Isabel Arbeeny. Of all the gifts she gave, none was greater than her presence in the lives of the friends and family she loved and who loved her in return. And now in her passing, she graces us with her memory as an eternal blessing to fill the emptiness of our hearts. Funeral services will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by interment at Hebrew Benefit Society Cemetery, Freehold.
