Obituary of Janet M. Hintze
Janet M. Hintze, 81 , of Somers, NY, passed away on Thursday, May 19 at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt. Kisco, NY.
Mrs. Hintze was born in Summit, NJ on November 28, 1934, the only child of Kenneth Metzler and Beatrice Cameron Metzler. She was raised in Union, NJ and graduated from Union High School in 1952 and Trenton State College (now the College of New Jersey) in 1956. She was a champion softball player and bowler in her school days.
She was an elementary school teacher, mostly in Colts Neck, NJ for 25 years, retiring in 1988. She was an active member in numerous education associations during her career and after retiring, always advocating for quality education for all.
Mrs. Hintze married Otto Hintze Jr. in 1958. They lived in Tinton Falls, NJ for 10 years and then Freehold, NJ for 30 years before moving to Cambridge, MD in 2000. He died in November 2014 and she then moved to Somers.
She had many interests, including community volunteer work, teaching Sunday School, sports and traveling. She was a voracious reader, wrote long letters in her beautiful handwriting and also enjoyed collecting rare blue glass and marbles from around the world.
Mrs. Hintze is survived by a son, Glenn Hintze, and his wife, Susan, of Somers; two granddaughters, Gretchen Hintze and Claire Hintze, both of Somers; and many in-laws, nieces, a nephew and many friends.
Calling hours at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, NJ, on May 24 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service at 11am May 25 at the funeral home. Interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan, NJ.
