Obituary of Douglas McDermott

Douglas McDermott, 94, of Jackson Township, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016 at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, Lakewood. Born in Helmetta, he lived in the Lakewood area prior to moving to Jackson Township seven years ago. Mr. McDermott was a maintenance worker for the N.J. Bell Telephone Company, Freehold for many years, retiring over 20 years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean McDermott, in 1984, and his second wife, Thelma Ernst Gibboney McDermott, in 2015. Surviving are his stepson, Thomas E. Gibboney and his wife Deborah, of Howell Township and The Villages, Florida; his grandchildren, Karen and Kevin Gibboney; and his great grandson, Dylan Gibboney. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until service time.
