Obituary of Margaret Swannell Errickson
Margaret Swannell Errickson, 87, of Freehold Township died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Applewood Estates Healthcare Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Errickson was born in New Brunswick and had resided in Highland Park for 27 years before moving to Freehold Township.
Mrs. Errickson was a graduate of Trenton State Teachers College, Class of 1948.
She was secretary to her husband, Freehold Township Superintendent of Schools Marshall W. Errickson from 1954 until their retirement in 1980.
Prior to that Mrs. Errickson was a business teacher at the Alexander Hamilton Junior High School, Elizabeth from 1948 to 1949 and a teacher and Head of Business Department at Pleasantville High School, Pleasantville from 1949 to 1954.
Mrs. Errickson was member of the First United Methodist Church, Freehold where she was a member of the Senior Choir, Financial Secretary from 1956 to 1974, a member and secretary of the New Educational Facility Committee to build Wesley Hall, secretary of United Methodist Women from 1983 to 1990, a member of Phoebe Fellowship, a member of the church’s music committee, Worship Committee, chairperson of the Landscape Committee, published the Sunday School Newsletter with her husband, secretary of the Council on Ministries from 1994 to 1997, communications coordinator, from 1994 to 1997, Secretary of the Board of Trustees from 1996 to 2003, and church historian. In 2004, the church dedicated the new church kitchen to her for her many years of faithful and dedicated service.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Molly Pitcher Chapter No. 198 and a former member of Charles H. Mann Chapter No. 189, Pleasantville where she served as organist and soloist. She was a member of the Freehold Township Historic Preservation Commission from 1990 to 1997 and served as a trustee of the Freehold Township Foundation for Educational Excellence from 1999 to 2001. Mrs. Errickson was a member of the Cecilian Music Club of Freehold.
She was predeceased by her husband, Marshall W. Errickson in 1989 and a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald H. and Olive T. Swannell.
Surviving are a niece, Deborah Shannon and two great nieces, Bonnie Lynn Dotson and Christine Anne Morasse.
The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and at the First United Methodist Church, 91 West Main Street, Freehold on Friday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the church on Friday at 8:00 p.m. The interment will be held at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Order of Eastern Star Services will be held at the church on Friday at 7:15 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the First United Methodist Church, Monmouth Council, B.S.A., or the YMCA of Western Monmouth would be appreciated.
